"I travelled to New Zealand in 2008, when I started importing from brothers Ben and Luc at Auntsfield Estate and ever since, we've worked hand-in-glove together with these two incredible professionals, who provide me with great wines every vintage. In fact, the wines are becoming more refined each year, probably from age on the vines and with more experience in their field - Ben is a master at sustainability in the vineyards and Luc is the dream-maker, bringing together different aspects of the terroir into the various wines they produce. The Pinot Noir in our November case is a great example of what they do best - balance and finesse."

Sliding Hill Pinot Noir 2017
The wine is a dark black-purple in colour, denser than all but the finest vintage pinot noir. Aromatically complex and lifted, the fine hazelnut aromas of oak and lees grace the intense violet and creamed black-fruit characters. The silky, classic Pinot Noir palate is driven by warm ripe black-cherry and doris-plum flavours, hints of cola nut and intense mushroom. An almost atypical Pinot tannin structure is the result of a fantastic vintage and reflects the potential of the Marlborough site. The weight, length and intensity of the wine promise a cellaring potential of at least seven years from vintage.

Auntsfield Estate
Auntsfield Estate is run under the watchful eye of the Cowley family and is the home of Marlborough's first colonial vineyard and winery. The dramatic hillside vineyard with its unique variety of soils is the inspiration to produce exciting hand crafted wines of balance and individuality that display the special terroir of this historic Marlborough vineyard. The original vineyard was established in 1873 by Marlborough's original winemaker, David Herd. Herd made highly regarded wine for over 50 years before the property reverted to sheep farming.
